Mrs. Valentina Juliana Aba Bannerman is a retired University Librarian with over two decades of experience in academia, 20 years of which were served in leadership positions. She was a principal Officer at the University of Education, Winneba , a member of Management as well as key committees and boards of the University such as member of ICT Board which had the responsibility of developing and implementing the ICT Policy of the university.
She holds an M Phil in Educational Psychology, (2000) from the University of Cape
Coast a Post Graduate Diploma in Library Studies from the University of Ghana (1984) and a BA in Education (1976) from the University of Cape Coast.
She was the president of Ghana Library Association [2006-2010] a board Member of the National Media Commission, (2009-2012) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (2013-2015) and PenTrust (2013-2016)
Due to her significant experience in the profession she served on several national and international committees, a few of which are; The Standing Conference of Africa University Libraries, Western Area (SCAULWA), as the Secretary for 4 years, 1999-2003, and for 2 years as General Secretary of the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA), 2013-2015. She has been a Standing committee member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Africa Section since 2009 and IFLA Copyright and Legal Matters Standing Committee from 2011-2015. She was for three years, an Advisory Committee Member of the Bill and Melinda Gates Access to Learning Award (ATLA).
She is Council member of the Ghana Library Association and member of the Executive Committee of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH). She has been a member of the Board of Directors, Open Learning Exchange (OLE) Ghana since 2008 and a member of Council of the Ghana Library Association since 2006. She now teaches Information Literacy on part time basis at the University of Education, Winneba.
